OUR STORY

Picture of OUR STORY

"We met in a bookstore"

In the heart of Kansas, where the skies stretch wide and sunsets paint the plains in gold, two people, Cynthia in Wichita and Michael in Manhattan—were living separate lives, just a few hours apart, yet worlds away from crossing paths. That is, until a dating app’s algorithm changed everything.

Cynthia, a former English teacher with a love for books, wellness, and the mysterious. Michael, a lifelong soldier who preferred pickleball, EDM, art (surprisingly), and hiking the Flint Hills. Both had tried online dating before—swipe after swipe, some laughs, some cringe worthy encounters, a few dates—but nothing stuck. Still, they each believed that maybe, just maybe, the right person was out there. One quiet Sunday evening in November, Cynthia sent an innocent and simple

"hello" on Michael's profile. His adventurous photos and articulate profile caught her attention. His headline sealed the deal: “We can say we met in a bookstore.” Michael saw Cynthia's message and reached out.

Their conversation flowed effortlessly. Within days, they were texting constantly sharing music, trading book recommendations, and laughing about a plethora of stories. However, their unknown destiny was put on hold due to Cynthia's travel abroad. After three weeks of long calls and growing mystery, they decided to meet for a day of roaming around Manhattan.

That first in-person meeting was a bitter cold day packed full of events ranging from a farmer's market, art museum, painting ceramics to cooking dinner with local food from the earlier jaunt to the farmer's market. The second date was filled with hiking, exploring a mill, and a random spontaneous game of pickleball. The chemistry was real. Their fourth date was where the two would inevitably conclude that this was something special.

Cynthia traveled to Manhattan for another day walking miles around the town. The skies were gray, and there was a moist chill in the air. They began the day with an epic hike to overlook the town. On the way down, small drops of ice began to fall. This did not stop them. They continued their day, but they noted the growing dangerous conditions. As cars skidded on the ice, Cynthia and Michael skated back to his small Manhattan apartment to wait out the storm. However, fate had something else in mind. The ice turned to snow and did not stop for nearly 24 hours, shutting down all roads and stores. They were stuck in that tiny apartment for seventy-two solid hours. As the plows slowly battled the snow, the time with one another exponentially removed questions whether this was something special and enduring.

Throughout the next year, they took trips across Kansas and to the east coast, met each other's families and friends, and built a life that felt like home—even without moving in together.

Then, on a summer evening in Wichita with the backdrop of “dining in the dark – home edition”, Michael got down on one knee as Cynthia’s blindfold was removed. Cynthia

said yes.

Now, surrounded by bright lights in the city of sin, they’re planning a Halloween wedding—where mystery and chill will be in the air. And yes, there will be

pickleball.

From a swipe on a screen to vows beneath the Vegas lights, Cynthia and Michael’s love story is a reminder that sometimes, the person you’ve been searching for is

just one click—and a little faith—away.
